 Sikkim Tour

Day 1: Calcutta - Guwahati - After breakfast depart on a 10 hour drive to Guwahati through some spectacular greenery. Overnight Hotel.

Day 2: Guwahati - Bagdogra - Darjeeling - Late morning transfer to the airport for a flight to Bagdogra. On arrival drive to Darjeeling. Situated at an altitude of 2134 m, Darjeeling was set up by the British as a hill resort to escape the heat and rains of the plains. This entire region is world famous for its Tea. Overnight Hotel.

Day 3: In Darjeeling - Early morning drive to Tiger Hill, 01 km south of Darjeeling, from where you get a spectacular view of the sun rising over Mount Kanchenjunga. While returning stop at the Ghoom monastery which houses a 5 meter long statue of Lord Buddha. Return to Hotel for Breakfast. Visit the Himalayan Mountaineering institute and the Zoological park which houses a lot of high altitude wildlife like Yaks, pandas and black bears. Also to be seen is the famous Darjeeling Hill Train. Overnight Hotel.

Day 4: Darjeeling - Gangtok - Drive to Gangtok after breakfast. Gangtok is the capital of the state of Sikkim and lies at an altitude of 1640 m, facing Mount Kanchenjunga. Visit the Phurba Chorten which has prayers every evening at 4.00. Overnight Hotel.

Day 5: Rumtek and Enchay - After breakfast visit Rumtek Monastery which lies 23 Kms east of Gangtok. In the afternoon visit Enchay, 3 Kms from Gangtok. This is a 200 yrs. old monastery. Overnight Hotel at Gangtok.

Day 6: Phodong and Labrang - After breakfast drive 38 Kms north to the Phodong Monastery. It has some very interesting old mural paintings. After a picnic lunch visit Labrang Monastery. On the road below you can see the ruins of the third capital of Sikkim - Tumlong. Return to Gangtok for overnight stay.

Day 7: Gangtok - Kalimpong - Early morning drive to Tashi view point on the North Sikkim highway. It offers an astounding view of Mount Kanchenjunga. Drive on to Kalimpong, a quiet hill resort, once the former headquarters of the Bhutanese government. Check in at Hotel. Afternoon drive to the Tharpa Choling and Palrifo Brang monasteries. Kalimpong was once the starting point of the trade route to Lhasa in Tibet. Overnight Hotel.

Day 8: Kalimpong - Bagdogra - Calcutta - After breakfast drive to Bagdogra and fly back to Calcutta for International flight home.

Day 9: Calcutta - Pasighat - Morning at leisure. Afternoon fly to Dibrugarh - Met at Airport. Cross the river by ferry to Pasighat, a unique settlement at the exit of the gorge from which the Siang river flows. Dinner and overnight at the circuit House

Day 10: Pasighat - Aohali - After breakfast drive to Aohali. Diner and overnight in camp

Day 11: Aohali - Yembung - After breakfast cross the Siang river and drive to Yembung. Dinner and Overnight camping

Day 12: Yembung - Along - Visit Yeksing village and drive through small villages of different tribes to Along, the headquarters of the upper Siang district, situated on the south bank of river Siyom

Day 13: Along - Daporijo - After breakfast drive to Daporijo, headquarters of Upper Subansiri district, situated on the right bank of the Subansiri river. Dinner and overnight camping.

Day 14: At Daporijo - Take a day trip to Taliha village - a two hour drive each way. Overnight camping.

Day 15: Daporijo - Ziro - Drive to Ziro, the headquarters of the lower Subansiri district. Situated at a height of 1572 m. Ziro is one of the most beautiful hill stations in Arunachal Pradesh, fringed by lofty mountains. The drive is through lush forested hillsides and past several tribal settlements.

Day 16: Ziro - After breakfast visit the nearby villages of Bela and Hare which offer a glimpse of the culture and lifestyle of the Apa Tani tribal community. The hoses in the villages are built on wooden piles a few feet off the ground. The men have elaborate tattoos on their faces and the women wear circular nose plugs, very typical of the tribal people of this region.

Day 17: Ziro - Itanagar - Drive to the capital of Arunachal Pradesh - Itanagar after breakfast. Visit the Buddhist monastery, Jawaharlal Nehru memorial museum and the craft centre. Overnight Hotel.

Day 18: Fly back to Calcutta for International Flight
