At Camp Thar we believe that the remote interiors is where
the real India is - away from the hustle and bustle of the commercialized
towns and cities.
Our endeavor is to take our guests off the beaten tourists tracks into
the desert to remote villages and "Dhanis". Remote areas of the "Thar" where
time seems to have stood still, one gets to see and meet different tribes
the hard and rugged people of the Thar braving the odds of the desert in
Rajasthan.
The base camp is a 5 minute cross country drive in to the desert from
the temple town of Osian, which is famous for it's Hindu and Jain temples
dating back to the 8th and 11th centuries. Osian was once on the trading
route between Delhi and the Middle East making it one of the most flourishing
business centers of its time.
For guests arriving from Jodhpur, Khimsar or Nagpur the base camp makes
an ideal take off point for all safaris leading towards Jaisalmer. For
guests arriving from Jailsalmer the same can be done vice versa, the safaris
ending at the base camp.
